Off topic but important. Has anyone else noticed that Alex Jones has become totally right-wing, unhinged and fringe lately? He's so committed to this silly and well debunked Obama birth certificate hoax that he has literally made a laughing stock out of 9/11 Truth seeing as how he claims to be the godfather of the whole thing. I for one am embarrassed to mention his name or show his films anymore. I have once adamant truthers telling me that they question whether or not 9/11 was even an inside job now based on his recent insanity. They believe that he just latches on to any kook theory in order to promote his website and sell films. It's getting harder and harder to defend Jones.

Now isn't that just perfect? I'm pissed. It's time for me to get to that blog post about AJ I've been meaning to write.

Looking forward to it. Its certainly time we divorce ourselves from the sensationalism of Jonestown and become more fact driven and professional.

I used to not mind Jonesy so much but he's been getting kookier and kookier over the years and this birth certificate crap crosses the already-crossed line.

I didn't mind him for a long time--then the racist crap everyone warned me about became more obvious. Endorsing Tarpley was the final straw.

That's the thing--it's sneaky. Effort is gone into pushing the reasonable concerns whilst softballing the crazy shite so the casual reader doesn't catch it. And it isn't like the people issuing warnings about Jones and related incidents were always helpful. Too many people never gave links or quoted incidents, they just "knew".

Okay--heads up to the honest people doing this--get three to a handful of your best examples of Jonetown weirdness, quoted and cited, prepared in advance to show the inevitable newbies who've never seen it who will inevitably ask what your problem with Jones is.

Because there is another type of person who will warn people about Jones in very vague terms--the disruptor trying to build cred and trade trust. They can be outside of 911 truth(Screw Lucy--always aware of the worst with negligible evidence of research--spoon fed stories from Nico, Killtown, etc is not research) or a friendly face inside.

One individual in particular always seemed to know about the right wing nuts in their group--but would never explain exactly how they knew this-- considering there was never a report or observation of these people expressing these extreme ideas.

The casual observer would be tempted to be impressed when it's proven the individual was right. But there's a problem claiming to know the right wing nuttery in a group while being a member of that group for years--not only how did they know (if these ideas weren't talked about), but why did they stay in the group so long?

Ever see that dynamic in a group-and it can be found alot around Jonesyness-know someone is not telling you the straight story. Don't walk, RUN. Wink

More birther-9/11 advocacy. Madsen also claimed at one point that nukes were used in NYC on 9/11.

Quote:
According to sources who worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at Ground Zero on and after 911, residents of southern Manhattan and rescue and clean-up workers involved in the recovery operations at the site of the former World Trade Center are experiencing an unusually high rate of non-Hodgkin lymphoma -- a cancer that is common among individuals who have been exposed to extremely high levels of ionizing radiation, such as that from nuclear blasts and major nuclear reactor leaks. Sources close to FEMA in New York confirmed to WMR that the lymphoma cases are believed to be the result of a release of extremely high levels of radiation from a series of nuclear events on the morning of 911. They believe that explains the reason for the "pulverization" of concrete, molten metals, pyroclastic surges and fallout, and other anomalies resulting from the catastrophe. (Wayne Madsen, 9/12/06)

Wow, it seems Buru Dragon really struck a vein!

A number of people have chimed in with comments - so good to see we're not all alone with our distaste for this garbage.

My post on this issue:

Alex Jones - 'Birther' or 'Truther'?

I hear Jonesy is making a "The Obama Deception 2". Great, now this birther crap can make it onto one of his movies.

The people who chant "9/11 was an inside job," who babble about controlled demolitions, who seriously think an airplane did not hit the Pentagon (our faves!)... these people, they are crazies who are rightfully marginalized and mocked and who've never been taken seriously by anyone in any position of authority in the Democratic party. They are, in that sense, like the hardcore Birthers. In fact, Philip Berg and Alex Jones are both.

Orlando was a very hardcore place the last time I was there, Disneyesque, tourist-oriented, intensely religious, Rethugnican, extreme poverty, etc. Not all of it -- the downtown was an interesting mix -- but a lot that I saw. I was glad to get out of there.

Here's how he sees it --

Quote:
Apologies for Jones and trutherism appeared instantly on the sites of the left-wing flagship magazines The Nation, The New Republic and elsewhere. The New York Times and Newsweek deliberately distorted what the truthers believe in order to make Jones look more reasonable and his critics more unreasonable. The Financial Times actually reported that Jones resigned for criticizing how the GOP majority had run Congress.

I'd like to see what he's referring to.
